Major Depression: General Information

You may be experiencing major depression if you have had several of the following symptoms most of the day, nearly every day, for the last two weeks or more:

1) Feeling sad, empty, or tearful

2) Feeling much less interested in doing most of the things you usually like to do for fun

3) Experiencing a significant increase or decrease in your appetite and/or weight that is not due to dieting

 4) Experiencing significant trouble sleeping or significant trouble remaining awake

 5) Feeling extremely restless or slowed down, as compared with your usual energy level

6) Feeling extremely tired all the time

7) Feeling worthless or blaming yourself for things that are not your fault

8) Having difficulty thinking, concentrating, and/or making everyday decisions

9) Having thoughts that life is not worth living—even without acting on them
