There are over 1000 alumni of the NYSPI/Columbia Residency Program in Psychiatry, dating back to the 1930's. Every year a distinguished alumnus is chosen to receive the Alumni Award and to dedicate, in their name, a special fund to be made available for a cause of their choosing.

| The 2008 APA reception for the departments of psychiatry at
NYSPI/Columbia and Weill Cornell Medical Center was held at the
National Museum of the American Indian, in Washington, D.C.
Representative Charles Rangel, (D) New York and Senator Pete
Domenici (R) New Mexico were honored for their many years of
support for the needs of patients with mental health issues.
Dr. Lourdes Dominguez (NYSPI 1990) received the 2008 Alumni Award.
As is our tradition, she was asked to designate the nature of the
prize to be given in her name. She requested that donations given
in her name be applied to provide "assistance to the families of
patients attending the outpatient CPMC Child/Adolescent clinic." On
the award was the engraving: "Medical Student, Resident, Unit
Director, Teacher, Friend & Champion of the Community.
