Ron Barber, D-Ariz., introduced his own, more limited bill, supported by a handful of Democrats, called theStrengthening Mental Health in Our Communities Act of 2014... Jeffrey Lieberman, past president of the American Psychiatric Association, says he hopes members of Congress can work together. Failing to act on the momentum provided by tragedies such as those at Newtown, the Washington Navy Yard and Fort Hood, he says, "would be a terrible misfortune and missed opportunity."
