Controversy Infecets Lyme Disease Treatment, Diagnosis

Although a potential vaccine was abandoned several years ago when it appeared to cause Lyme, research continues. Staff from the Lyme and Tick-Borne Diseases Research Center of the Columbia University Medical Center, offered free blood testing last week in Norwalk. The samples will be used in an ongoing study, and participants received a free tick removal kit.

The disease and its treatment is also the subject of an award-winning documentary, "Under Our Skin.' Filmmaker Andy Wilson attended screenings last week in New Haven and Stamford. Although Wilson's film, which features Jones and several Connecticut residents, makes a case for medical neglect of Lyme patients, Saul of Bridgeport Hospital said excellent care is available here.
