Addiction Experts: Relapses Always Possible in Recovery

For recovering drug addicts, the period of highest risk is during the three to six months after detox or rehab, said Ardsley psychiatrist Dr. Adam Bisaga, a professor at Columbia University Medical Center who specializes in addiction psychiatry and substance-use disorders.

“Your chance of dying after you come out of treatment is 10 to 15 times higher if you are a drug addict than at any other time in your life,” added Bisaga.
