The Confluence of Cognitive Impairment and Depression in Older Adults

The simple fact is that a doctor cannot approach an older adult in the same manner in which he or she would approach a younger adult. With age comes an increased likelihood of comorbid medical illness, memory problems, and difficulties in day-to-day functioning. The increased likelihood of co-occurring illnesses or dysfunction has ramifications for making an accurate diagnosis and has implications on accurate treatment planning.
