Better think twice before pulling that all-nighter.

Columbia University researchers recently published a report showing that sleep deprivation may have detrimental effects on students’ mental health.

The study, led by James Gangwisch, Ph.D., assistant professor of clinical psychiatric social work at the Columbia University Medical Center and the New York State Psychiatric Institute, found that adolescents who do not get a sufficient amount of sleep on a daily basis may experience depression and suicidal thoughts. In a CUMC press release, Gangwisch rejected the notion that more sleep is necessary for preadolescents than adolescents.
