Submitted by kwatson on Thu, 03/31/2022 - 16:43

This two-day conference, sponsored by the Columbia Center for Research on Ethical, Legal & Social Implications (ELSI) of Psychiatric, Neurologic & Behavioral Genetics, will begin with a review of the concepts and perspectives developed over the Center’s 12-year tenure. Then in two forward-looking sessions, we will focus on critical issues for the future of psychiatric, neurologic, and behavioral genetics. The first, entitled Genetic Interventions for Neurodevelopmental Disorders, will address ELSI related to genetic approaches for treatment of rare neurodevelopmental disorders. The second, entitled Genomics and Prediction Science in Psychiatry, will address ELSI related to the use of polygenic risk scores for prediction in psychiatric disorders. A final session will provide the perspectives of emerging scholars on the future of ELSI research. This conference is free and open to researchers, scholars, and interested members of the Columbia University community, students and educators, journalists, and the general public.
