Audubon Clinic

The Audubon Clinic is one of three outpatient clinics, that, in conjunction with the 5 South inpatient unit located at the New York State Psychiatric Institute (NYSPI), make up the Washington Heights Community Service (WHCS). Our mission is to provide culturally sensitive, recovery-oriented, evidence based outpatient psychiatric services of the highest quality to all our clients. The Audubon Clinic provides outpatient psychiatric services to adults 18 years of age and older. No one will be denied access to services due to inability to pay; and there is a discounted/sliding fee schedule available based on family size and income.

The Audubon Clinic is staffed by highly trained staff including psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, social workers, occupational therapists, peer specialists, and mental health therapy aides, many staff members have faculty appointments in the Columbia University Irving Medical School. They provide an array of services focused on helping individuals recover to the greatest extent possible, the roles, responsibilities, goals, relationships, mental and emotional well-being, disrupted by their illness. The staff is particularly skilled and experienced in the treatment of psychotic disorders, mood disorders, and anxiety disorders, among others.

Cultural and Linguistically Sensitive Care

Given the demographics of Northern Manhattan and the large number of Spanish speakers from Latin America and various Caribbean islands, many staff members are both bilingual in Spanish and bicultural, from Spanish language countries. An on-call service is also available at all times for any language not met by our staff.

Integrated, On-Site, Mental Health and Primary Care Services

Attending to the primary care and mental health needs of an individual in the same setting is optimal for achieving positive health outcomes. To that end, the Audubon Clinic provides on-site primary care services available to individuals receiving psychiatric services at the clinic.

Comprehensive System of Care

The WHCS offers a comprehensive network of inpatient and outpatient services and improves the continuity of care for our patients. Individuals benefit from a seamless flow of coordination of care which results in more effective care and reduces unnecessary interventions and treatment.

World-Renown Psychiatric Training and Teaching Program

The Audubon Clinic serves as a psychiatric teaching site of the Columbia University Irving Medical Center. Psychiatric residents, social work interns, medical, nursing, and occupational therapy students function as members of the interdisciplinary team, and are supervised by their respective professors and by senior staff at the Clinic.
