*Homelessness Center Grand Rounds*The Mental Health Needs of New YorkersThis grand rounds will:a) briefly describe the epidemiology of mental disorders,b) describe the NYS Office of Mental Health (OMH),c) identify quality gaps in NYC, andd) describe some of the work underway at the OMH to meet the mental health needs of New YorkersDr. Lloyd Sederer was appointed to serve as Medical Director of the Office of Mental Health (OMH) by Michael Hogan, Commissioner of the New York State Office of Mental Health, effective April 19, 2007. In this role, Dr. Sederer provides medical leadership for New York?s $4B mental health system, including accredited hospitals and community services in every county of New York State. Dr. Sederer served as Executive Deputy Commissioner for Mental Hygiene Services in the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene from 2002-2007. His leadership was crucial in expanding and improving the quality of mental hygiene services for the three disability areas of mental health, mental retardation/developmental disabilities, and chemical dependency across the spectrum from children to older adults. He was Director, Division of Clinical Services for the American Psychiatric Association; Medical Director and Executive Vice President of McLean Hospital, a not-for-profit hospital of the Harvard Medical School and one of the world?s foremost psychiatric hospitals; and faculty member at Harvard Medical School.
