*Adult Psychiatry Grand Rounds*Linda Fried, MD, MPH, is DeLamar Professor and Dean of the Mailman School of Public Health at Columbia University; Professor of Epidemiology and Medicine, and a Senior Vice President at Columbia University. Prior to her appointment to Columbia, Dr. Fried was associated with The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine where she held the post of Professor in the Department of Medicine, with a joint appointment in the Department of Epidemiology at The Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Dr. Fried received her B.A. in history from the University of Wisconsin at Madison, and her M.D. from Rush Medical College. She did an internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke?s Medical Center in Chicago, followed by a Masters of Public Health at The Johns Hopkins University School of Hygiene and Public Health. Dr. Fried has done fellowships in Internal Medicine, Cardio- vascular Epidemiology, and Geriatrics. She is an elected member of the Institute of Medicine, has been the Chair of the Working Group on Program, National Advisory Council on Aging, and has been on numerous study sections at NIA, NHLBI, and NSF. She has received many honors throughout her career starting with ?Intern of the Year" from the Department of Medicine at Rush Presbyterian-St. Luke's Medical Center, to her most recent award, The John Hopkins Department of Medicine?s Award for Contributions to Women?s Acdemic Careers in Medicine. Dr. Fried has published more than 280 articles in peer-reviewed journals, and has written 27 book chapters.
