The OnTrackNY/Washington Heights Community Service is an innovative, unique program for adolescents and young adults who recently have had unusual thoughts and behaviors or who have started hearing or seeing things that others do not. OnTrackNY/WHCS helps people achieve their goals for school, work, and relationships. Its mission is to provide premier, evidence-based services such as psychiatric treatment, employment and educational support, substance abuse treatment, and family education and support, for individuals and their families. The clinic offers care from a specialized team for up to two years, based on clients’ needs and preferences. The team consists of a psychiatrist, a nurse, mental health clinicians, an employment specialist, and a peer specialist, many of whom also have appointment at the Columbia University Irving Medical School.
In the words of our program participants:
“They actually pay attention to the whole me”
“I can really open up to them and be myself. I feel like I can tell them anything I would tell my best friend.”
